Parrots of an Unlikely Color

“…maybe somewhere there was a world where parrots of an unlikely color were frightening. This was not that world.”

In the midst of all my serious and heavy reading, I finally remembered a book a friend loaned me several months ago. Honestly, I had been a little leery of it, given that I did not care for the other book I’d read by that author, but I was pleasantly surprised.

Seanan McGuire’s Discount Armageddon is one of those brain candy books that’s meant for pure escapism. No heavy lifting here, just lots of snarky one-liners, oddball situations, and a lot of characters you wouldn’t expect. Like a gorgon named Carol.

If you’re into modern fantasy, then I’d recommend this one. It’s a quick afternoon’s read and good for those days when all you want is to just sit back and be entertained. And we all have days like that.
