The Twisted Ones
by T. Kingfisher
Fantasy/Horror
400 pages
Published October 2019, by Gallery/Saga Press
From Goodreads: When a young woman clears out her deceased grandmother’s home in rural North Carolina, she finds long-hidden secrets about a strange colony of beings in the woods.
When Mouse’s dad asks her to clean out her dead grandmother’s house, she says yes. After all, how bad could it be?
Answer: pretty bad. Grandma was a hoarder, and her house is stuffed with useless rubbish. That would be horrific enough, but there’s more—Mouse stumbles across her step-grandfather’s journal, which at first seems to be filled with nonsensical rants…until Mouse encounters some of the terrifying things he described for herself.
Alone in the woods with her dog, Mouse finds herself face to face with a series of impossible terrors—because sometimes the things that go bump in the night are real, and they’re looking for you. And if she doesn’t face them head-on, she might not survive to tell the tale.
From Hugo Award-winning author Ursula Vernon, writing as T. Kingfisher.
I’m not a big fan of horror, but I’ve heard good things about this book from reviewers I trust, so it’s definitely something I want to try. Forests are creepy enough without adding horror elements into the mix…
Ooh, definitely a good one! Very creepy, but funny too!
That’s good to hear! Thanks!
Reading now 😉
You are braver than I am. I am not a fan of horror and I have yet to read a horror book that inspires me to keep reading the genre. But I hope this one is a winner for you!
Ohmygoodness. You have to read it. You Have to. I just finished it tonight and I am officially a huge fan. It is creepy and hilarious and wonderful.
Another endorsement for Twisted Ones! I’ll have to move it higher up on the list. Thanks!
I laughed, I got the heebie jeebies, I laughed some more. It was a fantastic read! And you’re very welcome, I hope you like it!
