Goodreads Monday: Monstress, Vol. 5: Warchild

Goodreads Monday is a weekly meme where we randomly select a book from our Goodreads To Be Read list and share it with the world. It’s been hosted by Lauren’s Page Turners, but I’m not sure if that blog is active anymore. Please enjoy this preview of what I want to read in the future!

Monstress, Vol. 5: Warchild
by Marjorie Liu, illustrated by Sana Takeda
176 pages
Published October 6, 2020, by Image Comics

From Goodreads: There’s no turning back from the long dreaded war between the Federation and Arcanics – a massive human army gathers, ready to destroy the frontier city of Ravenna and enslave its inhabitants. Maika must decide whether to finally embrace her destructive power in the hopes that it can protect her friends – but what will be the consequences of no longer fighting her hunger? Will the repercussions be too much to bear?

Collects MONSTRESS issues #25-30

I’ve been following this series since I found volume one, and I love it. The story is so strange and unique, and the art is mind-blowingly good. It’s an Asian-inspired fantasy featuring a warrior woman haunted by a demon, and her human and animal companions as they seek to protect their world from the forces of evil that would devour them all. I think my local library has it, so I’ll be picking it up whenever it is available.

  1. I’ve seen this series mentioned a couple times now and I really like the artwork I’ve seen. I’m curious to try it one day. I love a well written and beautifully drawn comic book series.
