April Summary, May Preview

May 1, 2019May 1, 2019 / Kim @ Traveling in Books / 3 Comments

While the calendar is convinced that we're well into spring, the weather doesn't agree. It's snowing in the western part of the state, while here it has been cold and rainy since Monday. Sure, we had a row of beautiful days last week, but now its almost wintry out. I'd say that I can't wait … Continue reading April Summary, May Preview

Sunday Sum-Up, 04/07/2019

April 7, 2019April 6, 2019 / Kim @ Traveling in Books / 5 Comments

Spring is in the air! Green grass has begun to appear, the trees are starting to bud, and the first of the tulips and daffodils are blooming. The floodwaters are receding, too, though we keep getting rain so they might not be gone for long. I've been a little tired this week since a … Continue reading Sunday Sum-Up, 04/07/2019

I wanted to start reading Winter's Tale by Mark Helprin last night, but by the time I got home and finished doing all the annoying housekeeping, I was too tired to read anything, and went to bed. Oh well. Maybe tonight. . . . #winterstale #winterreads #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #blue #booklove #tbr #toread
My December TBR. Not as many books as other months, but a lot of pages. I can't wait to start my reread of The Lord of the Rings, especially now that I have the reader's companion by Hammond and Scull. . . 📚Silver on the Tree by Susan Cooper 📚Winter's Tale by Mark Helprin 📚The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien 📚The Two Towers by J.R.R Tolkien 📚The Return of the King by J.R.R. Tolkien 📚The Lord of the Rings: A Reader's Companion by Wayne G. Hammond and Christina Scull 📚Within the Frame by David duChemin . . . #tbr #bookstack #decemberreads #thelordoftherings #lotr #silveronthetree #thedarkisrising #tolkienfan #tolkien #tolkiennerd #booknerd
There are some books that, from the first page, you just know are going to be wonderful. That is the case with The Tiger's Daughter by K Arsenault Rivera. I am about 100 pages into it and am loving this gorgeously written story about two women who have loved each other from childhood and have a great destiny before them. . . . #thetigersdaughter #karsenaultrivera #newfavorites #amreading #currentreads #bookstagrammer #instabook #bookstagram #fantasynovels #theirbrightascendancy
There is a snowstorm on the way, and I would rather stay at home and read instead of going to work. . . I have read parts of The Sagas of Icelanders, but there are plenty of stories I still need to get to. I plan to remedy that this winter. . . . #sagas #sagasoftheicelanders #icelandicsagas #bookstagram #tbr #toread #winterreads #booksforasnowday
Why yes, I am a Tolkien nerd! My collection of books about J.R.R. Tolkien is slowly growing. I will read The Fellowship: The Literary Lives of the Inklings by Carol Zaleski and Philip Zaleski in either December or January. I am looking forward to this one, as well as my next reread of The Lord of the Rings. . Thanks to @prancingponypod for suggesting so many great Tolkien books! I can't remember if they mentioned this one on their podcast, but if not, they have recommended plenty of books like it. I have learned so much about my favorite books thanks to Alan and Shawn at The Prancing Pony Podcast! . . #tolkienfan #tolkien #theinklings #mythopoeicstudies #bookstagrammer #bookstagram #favoriteauthor #booklove #tbr #toread #nonfiction
Wolf Hall and Bring Up the Bodies are, hands down, my favorite historical fiction novels of 2019. I love how Mantel made the court of Henry VIII come to life and showed the humanity of historical figures who are usually viewed as one-dimensional charicatures. I can't wait for the final book in the trilogy, The Mirror and the Light, to come out next year. I need more 'He, Cromwell' in my life. . . . #wolfhall #bringupthebodies #hilarymantel #historicalfiction #thomascromwell #2019favorites #bookstagram #booklove #instabook
